Revdanda is a village in Alibag taluka of Raigad district. Revdanda is 17 km from Alibag. The village is near the edge of the creek where the Kundalika river meets the Arebian sea

The History:-

The Portuguese captain soz, began building the fort in 1528. Earlier, in 1516, the Portuguese built a building for the factory, called the Square Tower. Its ramparts were built between 1521 and 1524. On the night of 22nd July 1683, the Marathas attacked Revdanda, but the Portuguese thwarted it. The Marathas laid siege to Revdanda. The Portuguese attacked Fonda to break it. Therefore, the Marathas had to leave the siege. According to the treaty of 25 November 1740, the Portuguese handed over control of Revdanda and Korlai to the Marathas in exchange for the villages in Sashti. It was annexed by the British in 1806. In 1817, Angre conquered the fort. But soon in 1818, the fort passed to the British.

About the Fort :-

The perimeter of Revdanda fort is 5 km. Since the ramparts encircle the entire village, in most places it cannot be seen as it is a private property. The road to Revdanda is paved with embankments. If we go to the right side of that rampart, we reach the entrance. The Portuguese insignia is carved on the entrance. There is another door inside the entrance. In front of it are 3 big stone balls. There is a staircase to go to the top of the door. As he goes up, he sees a cannon ball stuck in the wall. Subsequent forts are near the coast. The main one is the underpass under the ramparts. There are 6 entraance  in this basement. But all entrance  are closed. Four out of seven floors of Satkhani Manora are left on the fort. The tower was called the “Guard of the Portuguese Armor.” Because from this tower one could observe from north to Mumbai and from south to Janjira. There are guns at the base of this tower. Apart from this, there are the remains of churches, houses and palaces.

How To Reach :-

There are direct buses from Mumbai, Pune to Revdanda. You can get off at Revdanda bus stand and see the fort from the shore. Shared rickshaws are available from Alibag to Revdanda. If you come by your own vehicle,  17 km from Alibag by Murud road, you will reach Revdanda.
