This goddess is seated in a padmasana and has four arms. She is depicted in the Abhaya Mudra in one hand and lotus in other. On either side of her are two or four elephants, who are shown carrying water in their trunks and anointing the goddess with it. The concept of Gajalakshmi –

The concept of Gajalakshmi is also found in ancient Puranas. The concept of Gajalakshmi is believed to have originated from the story of Samudramanthan in Vishnu Purana. To welcome her, the Ashtadiggajas (gods protecting the eight directions) filled their respective urns with holy water and anointed her. This event is depicted through the Gajalakshmi sculpture.
