Bird Watching

Alibag is famous for its diverse nature and also for its large & rare variety of birds. The beach stretching from Alibag to Murud is an attraction for various birds, which is why on some of the beaches, birds of some rare species can be seen here for a certain period of time. Few other places around Alibag are also famous for the habitat of these birds, making Bird watching a unique attraction for worldwide birdwatchers.

Dr. Salim Ali - Famous Bird Watcher of India and also known as 'Birdman of India' Salim Ali was staying in Kihim, a village near Alibag for some time. Here he got to study a large number of various species of birds.. He has published several books on bird watching. A large bird museum will soon be set up at Kihim.

Aakshi Beach

This is a fascinating place for many endemic and migratory birds from around the world. Every year bird lovers visit this beach and capture the pictures of these birds in their camera. These include Plover, Seagulls, Terrence and Bar Tail, Godwit.

Kankeshwar -

The high mountains of Kankeshwar, the nearby onean, and the surrounding hills make it home to many species of birds. Bird watchers from all over the country come here for bird watching. Mountains on three sides, thick bushes and the resulting cool climate attract birds. On the way to Kankeshwar temple, you can hear the melodious chirping of these birds. Many photographers also come here to take pictures of birds.

Phanasad Sanctuary -

Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for large variety of Birds. 164 species of birds are found here. Among them, mainly singing birds like Songbird, Jungle fowl, Indian Grey Hornbill, Black drongo, Black-hooded Oriole , Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Kingfisher, Long Tailed Shrike, Common Iora, Indian Roller, Asian Paradise-flycatcher, Woodpecker, Yellow-footed Green-Pigeon, Cuckoo, etc. and hunting birds like Owl, Peregrine falcon, Crested Serpent Eagle, Vulture, etc. Among the rare birds, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher and Sri Lankan Frogmouth, Gray Hornbill, Malabar Pied hornbill, are also found. Bird watching towers have also been built here for special bird watching at some places. If you go early in the morning for this, you can get bird sighting and beautiful experience.
