Hirakot Lake is a beautiful lake near Hirakot Fort. A small fort named Hirakot in Ramnath area was built by Kanhoji Angre in 1720. There was a treasure of Kanhoji Angre in this fort. Today it is been used as a prison. The black stones and soil in front of the fort were used to build the fort and that is why this Hirakot lake was formed.

Heerakot Lake is situated near Heerakot fort on the way to Varsoli towards west of Alibag. The lake has been beautifully decorated by the municipal corporation a few years back. The new fountains in and near the lake add to the beauty of the lake. The lake has water available all year round. Very attractive lighting is done around the lake on the eve of 15th August and 26th January in the year. The lake is just a km from the main beach of Alibag. The area around the lake is very quiet.

Alibag is an important place of government in Raigad district. And many important government offices are in the vicinity of this lake. The Heerakot fort near the lake has now been converted into a jail. This fort can be seen from the outside.
